What do I need to know about the appointment?
In order to achieve the most effective outcome for you, it is important that the site of pain is visible for both the assessment and treatment. This may mean bringing a pair of shorts to change into or for ladies to bring a strap top to the session.
On your first session, I will spend time going through your condition, your medical history and your lifestyle. A physical assessment will then be carried out. Relevant treatment options tailored to your condition will be discussed. The number of treatments needed depends on how you respond to treatment. Your initial visit will last 30 minutes which includes a consultation, an assessment and treatment.

Sports Massage aims to promote healing, restore function and achieve optimal performance. It can benefit anyone who has soft tissue tension due to over-activity, injury, emotional stress, poor posture, muscle imbalance or general soft tissue aches and pains.
Sports massage tends to be intense and deep. It is based on elements of Swedish massage and techniques include effleurage, petrissage, tapotement, vibration, compression, friction, trigger point release and muscle energy techniques.
Skilfully applied massage can assist with pain via blocking pain signals sent from the body to the brain.
You should notice a reduction in symptoms after just one session but your symptoms will be monitored in subsequent treatments.
Acupuncture can reduce pain by stimulating the central-nervous system to produce natural pain-relieving chemicals. This process assists the body’s healing process to promote recovery and improve quality of life.
Is acupuncture safe?
Acupuncture is generally a very safe method of treatment.Single-use, pre-sterile, disposable, single packed needles are used in the clinic. There are a some health conditions which do contraindicate the use of acupuncture. Before your session, I will go through a check list and let you know if it is inappropriate for it to be performed. It is recommended that you have eaten 2 hours prior receiving acupuncture. On your first session, no more than 6 needles will be used for a total duration of 15 minutes.
Does acupuncture work?
The use of acupuncture needling for the treatment of pain is supported by an ever-growing body of scientific evidence. Acupuncture combined with physiotherapy is widely accepted within both the NHS & private practice.
This is evident in the recommendation by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) that acupuncture should be available as a cost-effective short-term treatment for persistent non-specific low back pain (source: NICE 2009).
Pilates is a form of exercise which concentrates on strengthening the body with an emphasis on core strength. This helps to improve general fitness and overall well-being.
Similar to Yoga, Pilates concentrates on posture, balance and flexibility. In Pilates the chance of injury is much lower than with other more strenuous forms of exercise.
Pilates also focuses on the mind-body connection. While doing the various exercises your mind needs to be constantly aware of your breathing and the way your body moves.
